Humanoid adaptive gripper

Robomotive aims to achieve optimum flexibility with all components, and to this end has entered into a partnership with Robotiq, a company which is in the business of developing humanoid adaptive servo grippers for industrial robots (as a spin-off from similar kinds of grippers developed for the space and nuclear industries). This delivers the following benefits:

  • The gripper consists of 3 fingers, which are made up of several (humanoid) phalanges which are powered by servo-motors using an ingenious principle;
  • The gripper is product-independent and adapts itself to the form of the product (adaptive);
  • The fingers of the gripper can be programmed individually so that all possible initial settings can be adopted (for faster takt times);
  • The speed at which the gripper is opened and closed is programmable;
  • The clamping force of the gripper is also programmable;
  • The presence of a product in the gripper (or not, as the case may be) can be detected per finger;
  • Because the design of the original originates in the space and nuclear industries, failure is not an option. The grippers have undergone durability tests of 3.5 million cycles under extremely cold and extremely hot conditions;
  • The gripper can also perform welding operations with the aid of a flexible plastic “glove”.
