Thresholds for investment
The following aspects might be considered as obstacles to buying a robot:
- Unfamiliarity with the technology amongst management and own staff;
- Unfamiliarity with related techniques (and therefore the need for training);
- Less flexibility with respect to location and deployment (versus “flexible” operator);
- Ease-of-use is uncertain (learning to deal with Teachpendant instead of monitor, etc.);
- Cost-benefits cannot often be properly identified.
