3D vison

In order to significantly increase the possibilities and the flexibility of the cell, the demo cell is also equipped with 3D vision (these are the so-called “eyes” of the robot)
 
The 3D vision can be deployed for the following purposes:
 

  • To determine the status of the 3D surroundings for the supply of the product (packaging, such as crate or pallet);
  • To determine the presence of product within 3D space;
  • Product identification;
  • To determine product orientation in a 3D space;
  • Input control for product;
  • Output control for (assembled) product;
  • To determine the status of the 3D surroundings for the output of the product.

  • Robomotive demo cell robot uses 3D bin picking, whereby 3D vision signals the location and the orientation of randomly stacked products to the robot, after which the robot picks these up in the correct fashion.

 
Possible applications of 3D bin picking:
 

  • Loading of CNC machines from bulk material (randomly stacked products in trays, crates or on pallets);
  • Loading of presses from bulk material;
  • Loading of (welding) moulds from bulk material;
  • Loading and/or unloading of racks from bulk material for ovens, paintshops, washing machines, galvanisation tanks, etc.;
  • Picking up products from bulk material to later assemble or process this, or 
  • Sequential packing or palletisation of products from bulk material.

 
In terms of application, creativity is ultimately the limit, since 3D bin picking can be deployed cost-effectively anywhere where processes take place from bulk material, but where it was hitherto not technically or commercially possible to automate these.
